Time for Braces for the Kid

My boy needed a dentist in Tracy because he’s now of the age where we need to get him set up with some braces. He’s not enthusiastic about it and I can’t say I blame him. He’s the recipient of many generations of bad teeth. My own experience with braces back in the 1980s lasted for years and years. I didn’t get them off until right at the start of my senior year of high school. I think I had them for five years total, which should tell you the condition of my teeth and what my child is likely facing.

Fortunately we found a great dentist who does braces and he surprised us all by saying my son should only need them for about two years. Where was this guy when I was a kid? Maybe the technology is better. It likely is as thirty years is a long time. So my son will get the braces, get them off in two years, and then likely wear some type of retainer for a period of time after removal. Not bad. He’s still not looking forward to being a metal mouth or having his yearbook photos taken with his braces on display, but two years you cannot beat.

I was surprised at the fair cost and the quick time it took to put the braces on. We set up everything ahead of time so the appointments are already set in stone. He’ll go in about once a month for adjustments and then the removal and retainer is all covered in the cost. Living around here I really didn’t expect to find a good service, but this dentist is a straight shooter and is good at what he does. He’s got a great manner with patients too. My son even likes him and that’s saying something!
